Last weekend I got to hang out with my new buddy John.
John is a very cool cat from the day (I think he is easily 60something) that runs a local business in Del Mar, right next door to where I work. In his shop, he has a crew of people who make beautiful pottery by hand. Every single piece is individually woven and assembled completely from clay to kiln to finished product right here in San Diego. They are beautiful pieces that come in a variety of colors and shapes. John's company has a few larger accounts with some of the more well known homeware stores, but they are attempting to get to more direct consumers, especially through their new website.
That's where I come in. :)
They needed photographs of their bowls in a variety of scenarios. Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, dining room, patio, family room, whatever... Their bowls doing all these different things using color and props to add to their website and give their clients reasons to need their product. They are called "romantic" shots. Staged crap that isn't really supposed to look staged...
A rumpled bed with a thrown newspaper. A warm wood tray holding a yummy breakfast for two. Flowers and fruit for color and texture. I'm no marketing whiz, but I've read plenty of books and articles about presentation and hostessing. Throw in some shallow depth of field and you can call me Martha Stewart (without the striped pj's). We did at least a 15 or so different stages like that - it took way longer than I thought it would. But I had the best time!
First of all, drape a camera around my neck and I'm pretty much good. Throw in a crisp morning with a house full of fresh ocean air and some rich coffee. Then throw in some really rad Peruvian music turned up loud and a few tasty muffins (ala props we were done with) and I had pretty much made it to heaven. John and his friend Christine and I were a great team that had a great time. How lucky am I that I love this photo thing so much and people will pay me to take photos for them? It seems like too much fun to be getting paid. And that's when I know how blessed I truly am. Blessed beyond belief.
We took over a thousand photos in 5 hours. And they already know that they wanted to do more, but we ran out of time. So we are scheduling the next one soon.
Hopefully, they will get more of those banana muffins...they were deeelicious!
Follow your bliss sounds all new age cheesy, but I don't know a better way to put how I have ended up here on this particular path in my life. I remember going to Seattle and gazing at chief Joseph, then coming home with a ton of decisions made. That was almost three years ago. I continue to simply walk in the direction of those decisions. The rest is nothing at all...
Have a lovely hump day everybody!
Times Like These by the Foo Fighters
I am a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
Then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
Burning off alone
It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again
I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
And leave it all behind?
Lisa ,, you are truly blessed ,,, and you deserve every good thing that comes your way! You are one awesome and wonderful person!!!!
